I can't seem to open a PDF file you prepared. Please help!

If you see the following error message upon opening the PDF file we've prepared, it means that your PDF viewer does not support encrypted files.

The solution is to download/install the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader (Acrobat Reader DC).

It's free and is the only PDF reader that is guaranteed to open all PDF files (including encrypted ones). Once you’ve downloaded Adobe Reader, you’ll need to make sure to launch it and open the PDF file via File > Open (if you simply double-click the PDF file it may automatically be opened by your an out-of-date reader).

We check every PDF file we create before handing it over to you. So once you open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader, everything should work.

Please make sure to save the PDF file you would like to open to your computer and to open it directly with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you merely press the download link in your browser it may open in your browser (and you'll see an error message instead of the PDF content). The screenshot below shows the process for a PC or Mac.

If using a PC:

  1. Save the file to your PC and open it in File Explorer.
  2. Right-click on the file, then select Open with > Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

If using a Mac:

  1. Locate the file (it's a good idea to save it to the desktop).
  2. Right-click on the file, then select Open with > Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
