I have a Green Card but have not yet moved to the U.S. or applied for a Social Security Number. How do I file my U.S. taxes?

You should do the following:

  1. Apply for a Social Security Number.
  2. File your first U.S. tax return in the calendar year after you obtain your Green Card, regardless of whether you have moved to the U.S. or not.

Example

If you received your Green Card on November 10, 2017, you should file your U.S. tax return by June 15, 2018.
