The fee for a tax return remains the same regardless of filing status. In other words, whether you file jointly or separately, the tax return fee remains unchanged. However, if a couple chooses to file separately while both individuals have U.S. tax requirements, it will be necessary to prepare two separate sets of tax returns.

The cost for a married couple filing jointly using the Streamlined Procedure is the same as that for an individual. However, if the couple has separately-owned foreign accounts and needs duplicate sets of FBARs, additional FBAR forms may need to be prepared.
