We recently introduced the ability to pay bills or make prepayments directly from your TFX account using a variety of payment methods. You no longer need to email our Customer Success team with payment confirmation. Below is a list of available payment options:
ACH direct debit
ACH direct debit is a payment ACH direct debit is a payment method where you authorise TFX to debit your U.S. bank account directly (via the ACH network) through your TFX account (via Stripe Financial Connections).
Benefits of ACH direct debit:
- Instant payments — similar to card payments. 
- Secure — all transactions comply with Stripe’s ACH mandate and PCI-DSS standards. 
- Low fees — capped at around US $5, which is often cheaper than card fees. 
- Once verified, your bank account can be saved for future payments. 
To use the ACH direct debit payment method:
- Navigate to Bills & payments > Payments and click Make prepayment. 
- Enter the prepayment amount, select ACH direct debit, check the box "I have read and agree to the TFX Terms of service", and click Continue. 
- Enter your email, name, and search/select your U.S. bank. 
- Click Agree and continue. 
- Click Continue to securely connect to your bank via Stripe Financial Connections. 
- Log in to your online bank account. 
- Select your bank account and click Continue. 
- Authorize the ACH mandate once Stripe verifies your account ownership and balance, and click Save with Link. 
- Once connected, click Pay. 
Next time: When you open the payment window again, you will be able to remove the connected bank account and link another one or change your payment method. To do it, either click the Pay another way button:
- Or click Change. 
- Click +New payment method and select another payment method that suits you best. 
Credit/debit cards
Visa, Mastercard
Card payments processed securely via trusted providers such as Stripe or Square; TFX does not store your card details.
To pay with your Visa/Mastercard:
- Navigate to Bills & payments > Payments and click Make prepayment. 
- Enter the amount, select Credit card (Visa, Mastercard), check the box "I have read and agree to the TFX Terms of service", and click Continue. 
- Enter your card details and click Pay. 
❗ Important notes:
- All payments are made through a secure processing service. We don’t store your credit/debit card payment details. 
- For foreign-currency payments, your bank may apply its own conversion rates and fees. Please check the terms with your bank before making a payment. 
- If you see an error like “For AmEx, Diners Club, Discover payments, please reach out to Support …”, change the payment method by selecting Other payment method > Other credit card (AmEx, Diners Club, Discover) as described below. 
American Express (Amex), Diners Club, and Discover
Because our direct card processing providers do not accept Amex, Diners Club or Discover, we support those cards via PayPal only.
To pay with your Amex, Diners Club, or Discover card:
- Navigate to Bills & payments > Payments and click Make prepayment. 
- Enter the amount, select Other payment method > Other credit card (AmEx, Diners Club, Discover). 
- Check the box "I have read and agree to the TFX Terms of service" and click Continue. 
- Log in to your PayPal account (or create one) and navigate to your Wallet. 
- Click "Link a debit or credit card" and enter your Amex (or Diners Club/Discover) card details with billing address. 
- Click "Link card" to confirm the connection. 
- When prompted by PayPal, choose “Pay with American Express” to securely complete your transaction with TFX. 
Wise
Wise (formerly TransferWise) is an international payments service that allows you to send funds across borders and currencies at competitive rates and lower fees compared to traditional bank wires. We personally use Wise regularly and highly recommend it to our clients for cross-border payments.
Benefits of Wise transfers:
- Lower transfer fees than standard bank wires — typical bank wires cost $40-60 USD. 
- Competitive foreign exchange rates — only 0.5% markup for many currency pairs to USD (e.g., converting and sending £500 GBP to USD costs just £2). 
To use Wise as a payment method:
- Navigate to Bills & payments > Payments and click Make prepayment. 
- Enter the amount, select Wise, check the box "I have read and agree to the TFX Terms of service", and click Continue. 
- Copy the payment amount shown and either click the payment link 👉 https://wise.com/pay/business/taxesforexpatslp or click Pay with Wise to be directed to the Wise site. 
- On the Wise page, review the pre-filled payment details (TFX as the recipient, currency — USD) — No need to enter TFX’s email or bank account manually. 
- Fill in the You pay field and the Description field, and click Continue to pay. 
- Choose your preferred payment method within Wise (e.g., bank debit, card, etc.). 
- Click Continue and then Send. 
- After you make the transfer, go back to TFX and click the I have paid button. 
- We will manually track your payment and deposit the funds into your TFX account balance as credit within 1 business day. 
- Once funds are credited, you may sign your Engagement Letter or use your balance to pay outstanding bills or order services. 
Notes:
- For first-time Wise users, you may sign up via this link 👉 https://taxesforexpats.com/wise to get your first transfer free. 
- When sending money via Wise, the destination currency must be USD. We cannot accept EUR or any other currencies via the Wise route. 
- Wise payments to U.S. bank accounts can arrive within 12 hours (and sometimes instantly), though in some cases they may take up to a day depending on payment method, currency conversion, banking hours, and recipient bank. 
- If you are concerned about exchange rate fluctuations, please note that Wise holds your exchange rate for a locked-in period of up to 48 hours. This means you are guaranteed the rate shown at the time you initiate the transfer, regardless of market changes during that time. 
With Wise, you can make payments to TFX in the following currencies:

ACH domestic transfer
Automated Clearing House (ACH) domestic transfer is a standard U.S. bank-to-bank transfer via the ACH secure network from your U.S. bank to TFX’s U.S. bank account. It is suitable if you prefer to initiate the ACH bank wire transfer from your bank’s online portal rather than using a card or the direct debit route.
To use the ACH domestic transfer as a payment method:
- Navigate to Bills & payments > Payments and click Make prepayment. 
- Enter the amount, select Other payment method > ACH domestic transfer. 
- Check the box "I have read and agree to the TFX Terms of service" and click Continue. 
- Copy the payment amount shown and our bank info for USD – ACH domestic transfer. 
- From your U.S. bank account, initiate the transfer to TFX’s account. - ❗ Important note: Select “I will pay all charges” when prompted by your bank. If you select “Shared charges”, intermediary banks may deduct fees from your payment, and TFX can only credit the amount we receive. You may add the $4 receiving fee on top of your transfer if required. 
- After you make the transfer, go back to TFX and click the I have paid button. 
- We will manually track your payment and deposit the funds into your TFX account balance as credit within 1-3 business days. 
- Once funds are credited, you may sign your Engagement Letter or use your balance to pay outstanding bills or order services.

International bank transfer
A traditional international bank wire transfer from your non-U.S. bank account to TFX’s bank account, in your chosen currency among USD, EUR, GBP or AUD. It is suitable if you don’t have a U.S. bank account or if you are in a country with restricted direct payment methods.
To use an international bank wire transfer as a payment method:
- Navigate to Bills & payments > Payments and click Make prepayment. 
- Enter the amount, select Other payment method > International bank transfer. 
- Check the box "I have read and agree to the TFX Terms of service" and click Continue. 
- Select the currency (USD, EUR, GBP or AUD) to see the payment amount. 
- Copy the bank information with the necessary IBAN, SWIFT, BIC, UK Sort Code, and Australian BSB Code details: 
- Copy the exact payment amount in the selected currency. 
- From your bank account, initiate the wire transfer to TFX’s details. 
- After you make the transfer, go back to TFX and click the I have paid button. 
- We will manually track your payment and deposit the funds into your TFX account balance as credit within 1-5 business days. 
- Once funds are credited, you may sign your Engagement Letter or use your balance to pay outstanding bills or order services.
