Accepted file types
Our Tax Questionnaire (TQ) accepts the following formats:
Documents & data files: .odt, .ods, .doc, .docx, .txt, .txf, .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .csv, .pdf.
Images: .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .gif.
Please refrain from emailing the following file formats to a tax preparer and instead upload them in the Documents > Documents You Provide Us section in your TFX account:
Archive files: .zip, .rar, .gz.
Documents & data files: .odt, .ods, .doc, .docx, .txt, .txf, .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .csv, .pdf.
Images: .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .gif.
TurboTax files: .tax, .tax2008 - .tax2022.
Uploading archive files with multiple documents
When you upload an archive file, the system performs the following actions:
Automatically unzips the file into a new folder with the same name as the uploaded archive file.
Automatically deletes files that are not images or documents.
Scans the files for viruses and deletes any infected files.
Deletes the original archive file that was uploaded.
File size limitations
The maximum allowed file size for uploads is 25 MB. If a file exceeds the maximum upload size, a warning will be displayed:
