In this article, you can find instructions on how to unlock your file cabinet:

Before your tax return is prepared

Once the Engagement letter is signed, we will begin work on your tax return. At this time, your file cabinet will be locked, and you will not be able to upload or modify files, create new Tax Questionnaires, or edit existing ones.

However, before the tax return is prepared, you can unlock your file cabinet.

To unlock your file cabinet, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Tax Questionnaires page and click I need to make changes.

  2. Click the link with the required Tax Year to start editing.

Note: if your TQ is open, click the Unlock TQ button:

After your tax return is prepared

Your file cabinet with your return will remain locked until your tax return is finished and paid. After we have completed preparing your documents, they will be visible on the Documents TFX Prepared page but our system automatically locks them pending payment.ย Once you settle the associated bill on the Bills & Payments page, the files will be unlocked and accessible for viewing and downloading. There are no exceptions to this rule. While most people are upstanding clients to whom it would never occur to use the return we prepare and not pay us for the work (or require nagging reminders) - it is not always the case. This policy keeps everyone honest and makes our respective lives easier.

โ— Important notes:

  • If you disapprove your return, your file cabinet will be locked again. Once your tax preparer uploads the amended documents, you will be able to access and download them.

  • If you approve your return but wish to make changes to a previously submitted Tax Questionnaire, this will initiate the tax return preparation cycle all over again. Do it only if advised by your tax preparer.
